Big Fight Erupts Between Gideon Moi And Nick Salat Over EALA Slot In Arusha

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition having been allocated four slots, ODM has two slots within Azimio, Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper outfit and Jubilee party have one post each leaving KANU with no slot

A tough political war has erupted between KANU Chairman Gideon Moi and his Secretary General Nick Salat over who should be nominated to the East Africa Legislative Assembly in Arusha. According to sources, Gideon, who lost the Baringo Senatorial race in the August poll is thought to have realized that his chances of bouncing back to the political limelight are almost zero given that UDA and William Ruto’s political wave in the Rift Valley region is strong.

It is important to note that Ruto despite being a beneficiary of the late President Moi’s political leadership, in the last elections, tirelessly campaigned against Moi’s sons who were vying for various elective positions and true to his words, they all lost.

Back to the EALA slot, with the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition having been allocated four slots, ODM has two slots within Azimio, Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper outfit and Jubilee party have one post each leaving KANU with no slot. Sources say that Gideon has approached ODM leader Raila Odinga to donate one slot to KANU and to have him nominated for the same. However, Raila is said to have given it a cold shoulder.

Analysts now say that considering that Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza commands the majority, a plot to further deny Gideon a chance to EALA could be in the offing and that Ruto’s lieutenants could vote against Gideon. Raila has also found himself between a hard place and a rock as Nick Salat is also said to have approached him to donate a slot to KANU for himself. Salat and Raila are said to be buddies thus making Raila unable to decide between Gideon and Salat.

Those supporting Salat however argue that he should be given top priority considering that he has been in the political cold since 2003 while Gideon has been in parliament over the years.  It is however not known if Ruto will swallow his pride to allow his MPs to vote for Gideon but sources close to Ruto claim that he is more comfortable with Salat than Gideon.
