“The health sector was a key issue in my plan to the people of this great county, that is why I have started sorting out the debts to allow KEMSA supply us with medicines, I don’t want my people to suffer,” Governor Natembeya
Trans-Nzoia county governor George Natembeya has put public health providers on notice especially those who concentrate much on running their private clinics instead of concentrating on offering services to patients in health facilities.
Governor Natembeya says that he will not allow government health workers to skip attending to patients and concentrate on offering services in their private clinics. He was speaking in Saboti Constituency at a funeral service last weekend. “Trans- Nzoia has over 100 doctors but sometimes when you walk into some health facilities you won’t get them where they are expected to be, they sneak to go and attend their private clinics, please stay where you are employed and serve the nation,” Natembeya stated.
The governor said that it is so discouraging that his administration found a huge debt owed to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) which was incurred by the previous regime affirming that his administration has commenced sorting out the debts to allow KEMSA supply Trans- Nzoia with medicines.
“The health sector was a key issue in my plan to the people of this great county, that is why I have started sorting out the debts to allow KEMSA supply us with medicines, I don’t want my people to suffer,” Natembeya said. To improve health services in Trans- Nzoia, Natembeya noted that he will set up offices at the County Referral County hospital where the County Executive Committee Member (CECM), The Chief Officer and the Medical Superintendent will sit to offer services. “I don’t want to see my people suffer in seeking the health services, health is devolved that is why I’m on the forefront to spearhead this,” the county boss noted.
The first time the governor affirmed that his administration will pay the health workers well as a way of motivating them to serve the public. On Cancer, Natembeya called on residents to embrace paying visits to health facilities for screening so that if cancer is detected it can be treated earlier. However, Natembeya blasted the previous regime for not maintaining and repairing the road construction machinery saying that he found all the machines in ICU. “The major problem in Saboti is impassable roads, immediately the machinery repairs are done. I will embark on constructing roads and water in this constituency,” he said.
He called on the MPs to pass the supplementary budget to allow counties to receive funds so that locals can apply for Nawiri Funds to start and run businesses and develop their families. Natembeya also noted that he will partner with Equity bank under the Wings to Fly Program to identify and support poor but needy students’ access to education. “My administration will partner with other education schemes to fund the poor students learning from form one to form four to ensure that Trans-Nzoia is on the right direction,” he said.
