The Cabinet Secretary of Roads, Transport and Public Works Mr Kipchumba Murkomen held a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Dr Zhou Pingjian in Nairobi on Wednesday, the two discussed plans to expand the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Based on a press release sent to newsrooms, the aviation industry was one of the areas the two discussed in detail.
During the meeting the two discussed how to expand airports in Kenya, beginning with the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the statement further noted. CS Murkomen pledged that if the two nations’ relationship persisted, Kenya’s infrastructural sector would operate more effectively.
“As a government, we consider China a close friend and a great partner owing to their active involvement in the transformation of Kenya’s infrastructure landscape over the last 20 years resulting in the cheaper, faster and more efficient movement of people and goods between cities and towns,” he said. “We look forward to continued collaboration in infrastructure development and attracting more investment into the sector.”
CS Murkomen additionally advocated during the meeting for the creation of a practical framework that would promote the dissemination of technology, abilities, and information to Kenyan youth through the creation of collaborative teams, financial aid, and training.
“Technology has become the centerpiece of modern infrastructural developments with Information Transportation Systems offering the much-needed solutions to traffic control and management,” he said.
“As one of the powerhouses in the fields of science and technology, China can assist our youth to become competitive in the job market through scholarships and training that would accord them the technological know-how and the requisite skills necessary to become competitive in the global job market.”
