The current chairperson Vivienne Yeda is said to have given notice of retirement despite having served for only 2 years, she was appointed in November 2020. Sources say she has already given notice of retirement which will take effect on the day of the company’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for this month or early December this year. It is being whispered that she has opted out following the current trend where parastatal heads appointed by the last regime are being replaced
As President William Ruto continues rewarding his close allies, especially those who supported his presidential bid in the last general elections, some of his cronies have been sending power brokers within the corridors of State House to lobby for appointments to Kenya Power and Lighting Company in various capacities.
Sources say a former MP who lost in the last general elections has pressed buttons within the corridors of State House to be appointed chairman of Kenya Power. The current chairperson Vivienne Yeda is said to have given notice of retirement despite having served for only 2 years, she was appointed in November 2020.
President Ruto’s allies are also said to be targeting the position of CEO at Kenya power. Interestingly, to this day, a substantive CEO has never been appointed, two years now since the last one left. Currently, the acting CEO is Geoffrey Muli who took over from Ms Rosemary Oduor who had been at the helm in an acting capacity for over a year
Sources say she has already given notice of retirement which will take effect on the day of the company’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for this month or early December this year. It is being whispered that she has opted out following the current trend where parastatal heads appointed by the last regime are being replaced. To avoid public humiliation, she is said to have plotted to pull a fast one on President Ruto through resignation. Yeda is also the Director-General of, the East African Development Bank. She had also served as a non-executive director of Kenya Power since July 2020.
President Ruto’s allies are also said to be targeting the position of CEO at Kenya power. Interestingly, to this day, a substantive CEO has never been appointed, two years now since the last one left. Currently, the acting CEO is Geoffrey Muli who took over from Ms Rosemary Oduor who had been at the helm in an acting capacity for over a year.
Muli was appointed as acting managing director with effect from 17th May 2022, but going by the traditions at Kenya power, the position of MD has always been held by a senior member of the management team through promotions. For many years, the position has been left for top managers who have risen through the ranks and finally to the position of Managing Director. Before his appointment, he was the general manager in charge of regional Coordination at Kenya Power.
If the same precedence is to be followed then chances are very high that the next Managing Director is most likely to be Charles Cheruiyot who is currently the General Manager in charge of Internal Audit.
