Principal Secretary Nominee for Cabinet Affairs Julius Korir appeared before a court of law on Tuesday over assault charges against his former wife. It is alleged that the assault was a result of a disagreement about food. Mr Korir’s former wife Evelyn Koech, told the court that she received a fair share of slaps soon after Korir arrived home one night asking for food and she failed to respond.
“On the fateful day, I was putting our child to bed when my husband walked into the children’s bedroom and shouted ‘Leo utaniona, iko wapi chakula?’ And before I answered the accused started slapping me. I was trying to protect the baby from the slaps,” she narrated.
An emotional Ms Koech told the court that Korir’s violent behavior was a habitual tendency that began in 2015. “There’s a time when I was three days to delivery, he beat me up in front of his workers and other children,” she said.
Mr Korir is currently the PS for Devolution, and if accepted by the National Assembly, he will be relocating to a new department inside the Deputy President’s office. Korir, who has previously worked in the Ministries of Health, Industrialization, and Devolution, during his vetting process he argued that his abundance and expertise in government affairs qualifies him for the PS cabinet affairs position.
