All is not well at the Mediheal Hospital branches in Nairobi where medical staff in their numbers have threatened to down tools over unpaid salaries and other grievances. Mediheal is a group of hospitals with branches spread across the country and regionally whose chairman is former Kesses MP, Dr Swarup Mishra.
The employee’s claim that they have now gone for two months without salaries and attempts to get any explanation from the management has fallen on deaf ears. The hospitals are managed by Dr Devaki Nandan Bansal as the CEO and Group Finance Director while Dr Pallavi Mishra is the one calling the shots.
Speaking to The Weekly Vision on strict condition of anonymity for fear of victimization, the aggrieved staff claims that they can’t meet rent obligations and other basic needs. The management has been using the divide-and-rule method to contain the situation and any dissenting voice is threatened with summary dismissal.
One member of staff has made several attempts to reach the former MP through his phone but the only answer he gives is that he is in India on holiday. Sources now claim that Mishra’s financial muscles dwindled after he was floored in the August 2022 elections. Mr Mishra contested for the seat as an independent candidate losing to Julius Rutto of the UDA party.
Mr Mishra who once served as the Vice-chairman of the Health Committee in the National Assembly was a while back accused by his patients of fraudulent and fictitious insurance claims. The hospital was at the centre of an EACC and NHIF investigation on insurance fraud.
