President William Ruto is said to have been informed by the intelligence community that there is a deal between Cleophas Malala and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to fight Musalia Mudavadi a head of the 2027 Presidential elections, this could be the reason why the president has declined to offer Mr Malala any state job, so far
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is on a mission to neutralize his political detractors and at the same time attempt at consolidating his political power base ahead of the 2027 elections. Political analysts now claim that the DP is not sure if President William Ruto will pick him again as running mate in 2027, hence the reasons to work on his plan B.
According to a political analyst who spoke to The Weekly Vision and is well versed with the happenings within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, DP Gachagua’s inner circle have marked the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi as Gachagua’s political enemy number one ahead of the 2027 presidential election. It is against such fears that the DP’s inner circles have engaged the services of former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala to do the dirty job for them.
Pundits argue Gachagua is well aware that several of President William Ruto’s close allies are for a Ruto-Mudavadi ticket come 2027. The President’s close advisors believe that there could be a rebellion from the Mount Kenya region if the unfolding political events are anything to go by. Musalia Mudavadi fondly referred to as the gentleman of Kenya’s politics enjoys goodwill across the 47 counties including Luo Nyanza where he enjoys more support as compared to both Ruto and Gachagua. That DP Gachjagua and Musalia Mudavadi have been involved in a cold war is no longer a secret. The two are de facto regional kingpins; they both harbour presidential ambitions in the coming years.
What is currently worrying Mr Gachagua is that when he withdrew his presidential ambition in support of President Ruto, Mr Mudavadi made it clear at the time that he was only suspending his ambition just for one term and that come 2027 he will contest the presidency. It has been whispered that Ruto has placed Mudavadi in a strategic position and with sweeping powers making him technically second in command. To further prove that Ruto placed Mudavadi in a strategic place for political reasons and to neutralize Mr Malala, he assigned him more roles, roles that now appear to show that Mr Mudavadi has overpowered the DP in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance government.
Among the responsibilities handed over to Mudavadi by President Ruto include the chairing and coordinating the national government legislative agenda, assisting the president and deputy president to coordinate, and supervise ministries and departments, overseeing the implementation of national government policies, programs and projects, chairing principal secretaries’ committees, among others.
Under Executive Order 1 of 2023, President Ruto also mandated Mr Mudavadi to oversee the Government Delivery Services Unit. Cleophas Malala has been bankrolled by DP Gachagua in his political activities since Musalia was picked into his docket. Malala has not only traversed Kakamega County but the 5 sub-counties in the western region of Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Trans Nzia and Vihiga.
The Malala Soccer Tournament which initially was for Kakamega County is now extended to cover the 5 counties and the man said to be secretly sponsoring it the DP. The move is aimed at ensuring Malala becomes influential in the entire western region to keep Mudavadi on his toes. The DP knows that Ruto has a soft spot for Mudavadi analysts say it’s Mudavadi who delivered the presidency to Ruto and not Gachagua. Had Mudavadi stayed in Azimio together with Wetangula, Raila could have carried the day with close to 60% per cent of the votes, even if Mount Kenya had voted 70% for Ruto to a man. President William Ruto is said to have been informed by the intelligence community that there is a deal between Malala and his deputy and this could be the reason why Ruto has declined to give Malala a state job.
