All is not well at the giant Afya Sacco following the exit of former Cabinet secretary Peter Munya from office. Sources divulged that Mr Munya had on many occasions intervened by giving directions whenever there was a leadership crisis at the Sacco.
Sources now say that former CS Peter Munya’s orders only favored certain senior officers while other people termed the orders as dictatorial. A war of words is now threatening to tear down the Sacco as two opposing camps emerge. One camp is led by the Chief Executive Officer Peter Gisemba who is believed to have risen to the position courtesy of Mr Munya.
The other camp is led by Chairlady Beatrice Mogire who sources say was not in good books with the former CS, Peter Munya. Mogire has been accused of undermining the CEO whom sources say she does not have a soft spot for. The exit of Mr Munya has complicated matters for Mr Gisemba who frustrated his colleagues due to his closeness with the then CS.
The appointment of Simon Chelugui as Cooperatives and MSMEs CS has further complicated matters for him as the vice chairman Henry Kosgei is said to have made inroads into the minister’s inner circle. Kosgei and Gisemba are also said to be sworn enemies and do not see eye to eye.
Sources say for the short time the CEO has been in office, he had influenced the employment of certain individuals and the award of tenders to companies he has an interest. The board of directors is equally divided with the majority opposed to the CEO’s leadership while others have taken a neutral position and the minority in support of the CEO.
It is now being whispered that Kosgei has been confiding in his close friends that when elections are called, he will vie for the chairmanship to send Mogire home.
The narrative being peddled is that Afya Sacco’s leadership is divided into two political camps with Mogire and Gisemba being seen as Azimio supporters with Kosgei and others being seen as Kenya Kwanza supporters. Sources say it is just a matter of time before the behind-the-scene boardroom wars explode.
