Sources say Ali Mbogo is the only ally of Sonko who has been shortlisted; some of the names he had proposed were left out by the Public Service Commission. The same thing happened at City hall where Governor Sakaja left out the names of the individuals Sonko had proposed for the position of County Executive Committee Members (CECM or cabinet) and Chief Officers
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been burning the midnight oil to have a Memorandum of Understanding signed between him and President William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza signed ahead of the last general elections implemented. According to sources well versed with the happenings within the corridors of State House, several of president Ruto’s handlers are not comfortable with Sonko himself being made CAS due to his known habit of recording and publishing matters deemed confidential on social media platforms.
Sources also say Sonko who is facing corruption charges and having been impeached by the Senate is banned by the constitution from holding any public office, which is why he’s a mere spectator in the Ruto administration. To remain politically relevant, Sonko has ensured that he attends all public meetings attended by the president and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
He has always used such opportunities to please president Ruto by throwing insults at retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga However, his attempts to have the MoU he assigned with the president implemented has hit a dead end although his running mate in the Mombasa gubernatorial race Ali Mbogo, who served as Kisauni MP in the 12th parliament has been shortlisted for the CAS job. Sources say Mbogo is the only Sonko ally shortlisted as some of the names he had proposed had been left out by the Public Service Commission. The same thing happened at City hall where Governor Sakaja left out the names of the individuals he had proposed for the position of County Executive Committee Members (CECM or cabinet) and Chief Officers.
Sakaja is not new to Sonko and could not dare employ people seconded by him. It is widely believed that such people will be used to leak information against Sakaja’s administration when the right time comes. Sources say Sonko believes the East African Court will declare his impeachment null and void and will be able to again run for the governorship for Nairobi in 2027. We have since established that Sonko has been lobbying for the immediate former Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu to land a state job. Kananu was used by the handshake brothers Uhuru Kenyatta and former PM Raila Odinga to kick Sonko from office. Sonko and Kananu later fell out bitterly with Sonko exposing her through his social media platforms.
Kananu had been nominated by Jubilee Party to the Senate but the party performed dismally in the last elections, and she failed to land a nomination slot. She had to rush back to the drawing board. Sources who have been closely monitoring political events as they unfold revealed that it was Kananu who reached out to Sonko for reconciliation. A meeting was organized and Sonko being a politician who does not know how
