Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has said that he will join National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s party Ford Kenya to run for the Bungoma Gubernatorial race in 2027. He spoke in his constituency on Tuesday adding that currently, President William Ruto’s UDA party has fewer Members of County Assembly (MCA’s) in Bungoma and that he needs full support from MCAs to work.
However, MP Barasa told The Weekly Vision that he has done enough political ground checks and found out that Ford Kenya will produce the majority of MCA’s in the County Assembly of Bungoma in 2027. “A wise man would avoid running in headways of impeachment on flimsy grounds and lose focus on the agenda of developing the county,” Barasa said. Mr Barasa was elected MP on the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta Jubilee party In 2017 but in 2022 he joined Ruto’s UDA party and won. He called on the Western region to join the Ford Kenya party to make it stronger. “Wetang’ula has plans to make Ford Kenya stronger, let us all join the party in preparation for the 2027 elections,” he said.
On the finance bill debate, he noted that MPs will support sections in the bill that favours the common Mwananchi and reject those that will burden them. “Let me be clear on this, MPs will not just pass the bill but they will scrutinize it before making a decision,” he said, he did not come out clearly on when he plans to join the Ford Kenya party.
