What Mr Gachagua has not taken kindly to, is the fact that Moses Kuria supports Maina Njenga’s political activities in the Mount Kenya region. DP Gachagua is reported to have ordered the Nyeri County Commissioner not to allow any political event organized by Maina Njenga to take place in the region. Following the instructions, a major event to unveil the new Mt. Kenya Kingpin, which was to be held on December 31, 2023, in Nyeri, has now been cancelled

An ugly political confrontation has erupted between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management, Moses Kuria. Earlier, the two seemed to have buried their political differences regarding the burning kingpin issue within the Mount Kenya region, but before the dust could settle, Mr Kuria came out guns blazing, accusing DP Gachagua of having deleted his name from a long list of Kenyans who had been nominated as recipients of the presidential awards during the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations.
According to well-placed sources, the National Awards and Honors Committee falls under the office of the Deputy President and is chaired by the DG himself. This committee advises the president on who should be rewarded for their exemplary service to the nation.
There were whispers that Kuria’s name was on the list to be awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH), along with other cabinet secretaries, MPs, and governors. EGH is the highest honour bestowed on citizens singled out for excellence, mostly reserved for top-ranking government officials.
Upon realizing that his name had been omitted, CS Kuria took to his X handle and shared the full list of awardees. The CS suggested that his name had been deleted, reading malice by DP Gachagua given that most of his colleagues were included as recipients of the prestigious recognition. Mr Kuria has been engaged in a ‘cold war’ with the DP for some time now. He shared the list of persons working at the Office of the Deputy President, saying, “We shall be there no matter what.”
Political pundits now reveal that Mr. Gachagua is no longer comfortable with Moses Kuria. What the DP has not taken kindly is the fact that Moses Kuria supports Maina Njenga’s political activities in the Mount Kenya region. Records available indicate that CS Kuria has been attending political events organized and sponsored by Maina Njenga, something the DP has never taken kindly. Already, DP Gachagua is reported to have ordered the Nyeri County Commissioner not to allow any political event organized by Maina Njenga to take place in the entire Mount Kenya region.
Following the instructions, a major event to unveil the new Mt. Kenya Kingpin, which was to be held on December 31, 2023, in Nyeri, has been cancelled by the County Commissioner. According to Mr Njenga, the event was to be graced by former President Uhuru Kenyatta; Moses Kuria had also indicated that he would attend the event. Aware that the event would be used to attack him and Kenya Kwanza, the DP has used his powers to cancel the event.
Last month, the DP was alleged to have sponsored Mount Kenya women politicians to run a malicious narrative that Maina Njenga was reviving the outlawed Mungiki sect. The narrative has since backfired, with Njenga’s supporters coming out in their numbers to support him. Sources say the DP sought the intervention of Internal Security CS Kithuri Kindiki to deal with the alleged emergence of Mungiki in the Mount Kenya region.
