The High Court in Nairobi has issued orders to the director of criminal investigation DCI to stop intimidating and harassing two members of parliament from Nairobi County allied to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The MPs according to lawyers Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wambui are being sought for allegedly sponsoring anti-government protests spearheaded by the GenZ. “That in the meantime, a conservatory order is hereby issued restraining the respondent, their agents and or servants from arresting, detaining, confining, pursuing and or in any other way interfering with the petitioner’s liberty in connection with the allegations giving rise to this petition until September 17, 2024.” reads part of the Orders

An application filed by lawyers Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wambui on behalf of MPs James Gakuya (Embakasi North) and Benjamin Mwangi (Embakasi Central), states that their client’s liberty has been violated by the DCI officers.

This is after they were sermoned to appear before  DCI investigators for interrogation over alleged sponsoring of the anti-government protests led by the youths dubbed Gen Z. “Our clients were sermoned by the DCI where they were questioned for several hours over alleged sponsoring of the youths against the government in the city, this is wrong given that those youths were exercising their rights under the constitution to question the government accountability,” said Omari.

Omari argued that his clients who are elected MPs are being intimidated by security agents because of their relationship with Deputy President Gachagua who is seen to be at a crossroads with President  William Ruto. “This is purely a political witchhunt, just because they are friends with the deputy president. I think we are going back to dark days where such institutions were being used to intimidate others,Gachagua is actually where president  Ruto was there then as the Deputy president,” added Omari.
