Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has directed all departments in the County to ensure the youth are given equal opportunities in the award of tenders. She was speaking while conducting public participation forums on the proposed amendments to the Machakos County Youth Empowerment Act (2024) in Mavoko sub-county in Machakos County.

The governor said that her government was committed to total compliance with Article 55 of the Constitution which requires young people to be involved in national development. “I have directed all departments to set aside several tenders exclusively for the youth. All youths in organized groups will be guaranteed access to Government Procurement to Opportunities (AGPO),” Wavinya declared. The governor directed all the Ward administrators across the county to spearhead the mobilization of the various youth groups to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Governor Wavinya revealed that she planned to set up Machakos Youth Service (MYS) a replica of the National Youth Service (NYS) where recruits from across the county will be trained in various professional disciplines. The ongoing public participation exercise across different sub-counties in the county seeks to capture the views of the young people regarding the proposed amendments to the legislation which awaits final nod by the County Assembly.
