Roots Party leader and former presidential aspirant Prof. George Wajackoyah has announced that he will contest the presidential election in 2027. He said he was still solidifying his political support base in Western Kenya before moving to other parts of the country to seek more support.
He announced his presidential ambitions last Saturday at the burial of the late Boniface Ojiambo Mbunda at Buranga village, Butula subcounty of Busia County. The late Mbunda passed away in Arusha, Tanzania, on July 31. Wajackoyah is also a top leader in Azimio.
He said that he has since initiated moves aimed at holding meetings with all of the five governors from western Kenya counties, commonly known as Mulembe Nation, to bring people of the region together. So far he has been able to meet governors Fernandes Barasa (Kakamega), Wilbur Ottichilo (Vihiga), Ken Lusaka (Bungoma), Paul Otuoma (Busia), and George Natembeya (TransNzoia).
He has also extensively visited other parts of the country, especially in Nyanza, where he held talks with Governors James Orengo of Siaya County and Prof. Anyang Nyong’o of Kisumu County. At the same time, Wajackoyah said that he fully supports protests by Gen Zs that have since led to the withdrawal of the Finance Bill for 2024. He said that he managed to spread the same message of the anti-finance bill to Kenyans living in the diaspora when he led a protest in Dallas, USA. He at the time criticised the bill for its potential negative economic impact on the well-being of ordinary Kenyans.
Wajackoyah, who is known for his vocal stance on national issues, expressed solidarity with Kenyans at home and abroad, urging the Diaspora community to voice their concerns and support the Generation Z protests. “We, together with our young Generation Z, want to chase away fraudsters holding political offices in Kenya,” he stated.
