A Nairobi businessman has filed a case at the Small Claims Court in Nairobi against National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula over a Ksh. 298,100 debt he has refused to settle. The businessman, Isokat Bethwel, through his lawyer, Ashioya Mogire, filed a claim seeking the court’s intervention to get paid the money for the sale of two male German shepherd dogs and training services.
In the documents seen by The Weekly Vision, Ref. SCCOMM No. 2024, Mr. Isoka Bethwel claims Hon. Wetangula contracted him to supply and train two dogs at an agreed fee of Ksh. 298,100.00. Isoka says Wetangula further instructed him to supply two packs of dog food, four packs of Brave Active (dog food), dog training sleeves, a dog leash, choke chains, and dog grooming brushes. He also supplied a dog nail cutter, five litres of dog shampoo, and five litres of kennel disinfectant, totalling Ksh. 348,100.00.
The claimant says after several follow-ups with Wetangula, on or about July 13, 2021, he paid him a total of Ksh. 100,000.00 through a cheque from NCBA bank and remained with a Ksh balance. 248,100.00, which he is yet to pay.
The complainant adds that the Speaker further requested him to train his staff in the handling of the dogs for a period of one month, an assignment he agreed to undertake at an additional cost of Ksh. 50,000.00.
He adds in court papers that when he reached out to Mr. Wetangula to recover the balance, the speaker rudely and adamantly informed him that he would not pay him.
“I tried reaching out to the respondent to recover the said balance, but he rudely and adamantly informed me that he would not pay me,” the complainant adds in court papers. He added that his efforts to seek legal redress through normal channels have proven futile, as Mr. Wetangula did not respond to the letter by his lawyer.
