Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of Kenya Police Eliud Lagat made an impromptu visit to Kilimani Police Station on Wednesday night. Mr Lagat’s mission was to have firsthand information on how the station is run at night, according to National Police Service spokesperson Dr Resila Onyango, who added that many officers at the station were caught unawares.
“I am very keen on service delivery to the members of the public, and you must take responsibility for every act you are doing, Lagat told the station officers during the visit. That is the message of DIG Kenya Police Mr Eliud Lagat to Kilimani Police Officers tonight.
Unlike in other visits to stations where he’s received by senior officers in the station, this time around at Kilimani police station, he was welcomed to the station by a police constable, Joshua Kiai, who is the report office personnel for the night. According to Onyango, who accompanied the deputy police boss, he inspected the police cells, bathrooms, armoury, offices, and the Gender and Child Protection Unit and offered his advice to the officers to steer off corruption.
Others who accompanied Lagat were Nairobi Deputy Regional Police Commander Daniel Chacha. Kilimani Sub County Police Commander Kobia Bariu was also present, as was the station officer commanding station (OCS) Albert Chebii, who joined him on his arrival at the station. Also present was Kilimani traffic base commander Leah Gita.
The DIG made similar unexpected visits to Mbale Police Station in Vihiga and Kondele Police Station in Kisumu last week and has said that he will visit more stations in the country to encourage police officers to work hard and serve members of the public well.
