A man has been charged at a Nairobi court with conspiracy to obtain a piece of land worth Sh1.6 billion by false pretences. Francis Muhuru Ndinguri faced three counts of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining registration by false pretences, and forgery.
He was charged that on diverse dates between January 4 and September 15, 2023, within Nairobi County, together with others not before the court, he jointly conspired with intent to defraud Messer’s Langton Investment Limited of a parcel of land worth Sh1,619,700,000.
The land Reference No. 28401, IR No. 152720, measuring approximately 21.85 hectares, is located along the Northern bypass road in Nairobi County and is valued at Sh1.6 billion.
In the second charge, the court heard that Muhuru, on or before February 24, 2023, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, with intent to defraud, forged a certificate of registration CR12 purporting it to be a genuine certificate of registration of Messer’s Langton Investment Limited.
He was further charged with obtaining registration by false pretences, contrary to Section 32 of the penal code. The prosecution told the court that on diverse dates between January 4 and September 15, 2023, at the Ministry of Lands, Muhuru procured for himself registration of a provisional certificate of a title for land with reference No. 28401 IR No. 152720 by falsely pretending that he was the director of Messer’s Langton Investment Limited.
He appeared before the Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi and denied the charges levelled against him. In her ruling, Nanzushi released Muhuru on a bond of Sh5 million with a surety of a similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh1 million with one contact person. The matter will be mentioned on September 9, 2024.
