Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has been summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over alleged inflammatory remarks he reportedly made on two separate occasions. The governor is required to appear before the commission on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 10:00 am.

In a letter dated September 9, 2024, the NCIC disclosed that it is investigating Governor Lenku for comments made on September 6 in Ewuaso, Kajiado West, and on August 12 at Rombo Group Ranch. According to the commission, the statements were allegedly intended to incite hatred and could jeopardize peaceful coexistence between the Maasai and other communities, in violation of Section 62(1) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act, No. 12 of 2008.
“You are hereby required to appear at the commission’s offices at KMA Centre, 6th floor, Mara Road, Upper Hill, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 10:00 am to assist with the ongoing investigation. Take note that under Section 29 of the NCI Act, any summons issued by the commission must be complied with as if issued by the High Court,” stated NCIC CEO Harrison Kariuki.
The statement further warned, “Failure to appear in person at the specified time and place will result in contempt proceedings, with all associated consequences.”
