Big Win For Collage As Judge Allows Appeal, Former Employees To Face New Charges

The Vision Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) has filed an appeal in a case involving its former employees who allegedly conspired with First Community Bank personnel, which resulted in the loss of Kshs. 34,163,308 due to fraudulent activities. This means that the former employees and the implicated bank staff remain accountable for their actions.

The accused, Andrew Mokaya Maubi, Eunice Fibi Adhiambo, Dennis Makhanu Cheloti, and Jackson Mwaiwa Kaviku, were all employed in the VIPS accounts department and are charged with colluding with bank staff to embezzle significant sums from VIPS on multiple occasions.

In its appeal, the college argues that it risks a miscarriage of justice due to the fraudulent actions carried out by both the bank and its former employees in collusion with each other.

In response, the former employees have filed affidavits to contest the allegations: Dennis Makhanu Cheloti submitted his affidavit on February 29, 2024, Eunice Phoebe Adhiambo on February 27, 2024, and Andrew Mokaya Maubi on March 6, 2024. On September 20, 2024, Judge Mumbi Ngugi ruled in favor of VIPS, allowing the institution to appeal the previous ruling and permitting the former employees to be charged anew for their alleged collusion with bank officials in defrauding the college
