Former Kesses MP Swarup Mishra’s woes are far from over with auctioners announcing a fresh plan to put multi-billion properties under the hammer.
In a notice in the newspapers on Saturday, Eshikoni Auctioneers announced it will auction various parcels of land and other property from Monday, November 4 to Wednesday, November 6.
The properties include two pieces of land measuring 0.5336 and 0.2421 hectares located at Kapsoya Gardens off Eldoret town where the former MPs and his wife have built health facilities under the Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre.
Others are 0.05 hectares of land in Iten and 0.2194 hectares of land in Kisii town where the family operates other facilities.
Also up for auction are 0.65 hectares of land owned by the former MP and his wife Pallavi Jodhpur Rajsthan in lower Elgon View estate, 3.91 hectares of land in Chepsiria village, and 0.10 hectares of land in EATC, where the ex-MP currently rears dairy cows.
Since he left office amid a fallout with then-Deputy President William Ruto, Mishra has seen his empire collapse with the hospital ceasing operations.
The former MP claims he was a victim of political persecution which saw the government withdraw a medical covers as well as default on NHIF deductions, which were in arrears.
“After 2 years of living on my knees under constant threat and losing millions to systemic blackmail; I wake up to find everything I’ve worked for for over 20 years is being auctioned,” he lamented in July when Eshikoni first put out a notice to dispose of his properties.
In April this year, Jomuki Auctioneers announced it was auctioning 0.9 hectares of land within Blossom, Kiambaa, in Kesses division, 10 acres within Ngeria centre, 4 acres and another 10 acres parcels of land in Chepkigen, 1.07 acres within Elgon View estate where he has built a palatial home in Greenvale area, and another 1.086 within the same area.
The auctioneer said they were seeking to recover a Ksh350 million debt owed to various banks.
Last year, Legacy Auctioneer Services and Commercial International Bank (CIB) Kenya Limited sought to auction the hospital to recover a Sh61 million loan, which was in arrears.
However, the former MP received a temporary reprieve when High Court Judge Milton Nyakundi granted him an injunction.
Mishra, who was known for his generosity, lost his seat by going against the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) wave, despite Uasin Gishu being Ruto’s backyard.
Ruto, who went on to win the presidency in 2022, was at the time embroiled in a bitter fallout with then-President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was backing Azimio’s Raila Odinga.
Mishra later apologised for going against the grain.
“To my kinsmen, the Kalenjin nation, Kenyans and to President Ruto, I once again offer my sincere apologies for any past wrongdoings and missteps,” said Mishra in a statement last September.
