The national treasury must expedite the release of county funds to boost development.
Many projects in Kakamega County are progressing slowly due to delays in fund disbursement by the treasury. Governor Fernandez Barasa has called on the national government to facilitate a quicker transfer of these funds, enabling counties to initiate various projects and meet their financial obligations to suppliers, workers, and contractors.
Barasa made these remarks during a prayer meeting at Chevaywa, organized by the Friends Quaker Church under the United Society of Friends Women (USFW). The gathering focused on the theme of inner healing, inspired by Luke 4:18, urging attendees to worship and serve the true living God.
During the service, the governor emphasized the need for unity in the country, acknowledging the current political divisions. He voiced his frustration over the delay in county fund disbursements, which hampers operations not only in Kakamega but across all 47 counties.
“Governors are struggling to complete projects and face criticism from voters for delays, unaware that the national government is responsible for the slow release of funds,” Barasa stated. He urged Treasury Cabinet Secretary Honorable John Mbadi to accelerate the disbursement process so that counties can meet project deadlines.
The governor pointed out that these delays have caused numerous projects to fall behind schedule, leading to perceptions that many governors are inactive.
Accompanied by Lugari MP Nabi Nabwera, Barasa reassured Chevaywa residents that construction on the Sitati Junction-Muhomo Spring-Kivaywa road will resume next week, promoting infrastructure development and economic growth in the area.
