Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has thrown his full support behind Deputy President appointee Kithure Kindiki, praising him as the best candidate for the position. Speaking in Murang’a town, Wa Iria lauded President William Ruto for choosing Kindiki, noting that despite being from the Mt. Kenya region, he possesses a national profile that makes him well-suited for the role.
Wa Iria emphasized that with Kindiki’s appointment, the time has come to move past the debate surrounding the ousted former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, and instead focus on advancing key development initiatives. “It’s time to close that chapter and work on delivering to the people,” he said.
He further expressed confidence in Kindiki’s ability to unite the politically divided Mt. Kenya region, urging him to lead efforts to bring the region’s leaders and citizens together. Wa Iria also called for an end to the prolonged debate over Mt. Kenya’s leadership, stating that it was time to prioritize regional development over political infighting.
The former governor dismissed concerns that Gachagua’s ousting would destabilize Ruto’s political support in the region, pointing to the president’s established grassroots connections and his newfound alliance with opposition leader Raila Odinga. Wa Iria predicted that these factors would ensure Ruto’s victory in the 2027 elections, predicting a landslide win of over 70%.
While he acknowledged that political tensions may take time to cool, Wa Iria urged the president to remain attentive to the needs of the Mt. Kenya region as the country moves forward.
