Dr Nelson Muakara Sechere, CEO of Veterans for Peace, has been charged with the alleged theft of goods valued at Sh16 million. Kenya Veterans for Peace (KVP) is a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Military Veterans Organization. Dr Sechere appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego, where he denied the charges against him.
The first charge states that between July 1, 2024, and September 20, 2024, at the Kenya Veterans for Peace office on the 16th floor of Nyayo House in Nairobi, Sechere conspired with others not present in court to defraud Kipkoech Mutai of goods worth Sh16,989,500. The items listed in the charge sheet include sugar, rice, and cooking oil.
“You falsely pretended that you were in a position to pay for the goods upon delivery, a fact you knew to be untrue. You also obtained the goods from him,” the charge sheet detailed.
In a separate charge, it was alleged that between December 6, 2023, and December 11, 2023, in Nairobi County, Sechere, along with another individual already in court and others not present, intended to defraud Caroline Mwoni Amusala of goods worth Sh4,026,700. These goods included rice, several 20-litre jerrycans, and cooking oil.
“You pretended that there was a genuine agreement between her and Kenya Veterans for Peace for the supply and delivery of these goods, a fact you knew to be false,” the charge sheet read.
Sechere denied all accusations and requested lenient bond terms, asserting that he was not a flight risk. He was subsequently released on a bond of Sh2 million with one surety for the same amount or, alternatively, a cash bail of Sh1 million. The case is set for mention on November 4.
