Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced the launch of direct flights from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to London’s Gatwick Airport (LGW), starting July 2, 2025. This new route adds a second UK destination for KQ alongside London Heathrow (LHR), enhancing travel options for passengers.
The Gatwick flights will operate three times weekly, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with departures scheduled at night from Nairobi. Combined with the existing Heathrow service, KQ will offer a total of 10 weekly flights to London, catering to diverse customer schedules and preferences.
Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka highlighted the significance of the UK market to the airline’s growth strategy. “The United Kingdom is essential and strategic for Kenya Airways and Kenya. It provides a gateway for trade, tourism, education, business, leisure travel, and diaspora connections,” he stated.
Kilavuka emphasized that the Gatwick launch aligns with KQ’s route expansion plans and hinted at further growth in the UK market. “This is just the beginning of our expansion plans for the UK market,” he noted, expressing optimism about the potential for deeper market penetration and enhanced connectivity.
The addition of Gatwick Airport offers greater flexibility for KQ’s passengers, opening more travel opportunities and streamlining connections. The move is expected to boost trade, tourism, and diaspora engagements between Kenya and the UK while supporting Kenya Airways’ vision of being Africa’s premier airline.
This strategic development comes as KQ continues to strengthen its position in international aviation, focusing on high-demand routes and customer-centric schedules.
