Kakamega County Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has praised the recent political reconciliation between President William Ruto and his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, describing it as a critical step toward fostering national stability and political cohesion.

Speaking in Malava during a visit by Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Mulongo, Savula commended the historic meeting, asserting that it has steered the country away from the brink of a tribal political crisis. The fallout had been exacerbated by the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which had intensified tensions between President Ruto and his embattled deputy.

“The meeting between the President and the former President is timely. It is a move that will restore political stability and unity in our country,” said Savula. He highlighted President Ruto’s inclusive approach to governance, which has seen the incorporation of leaders from the opposition Azimio coalition into the government. Prominent Azimio figures such as Wycliffe Oparanya (Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives), John Mbadi (Finance), Opiyo Wandayi (Transport), and Hassan Ali Joho (Blue Economy) have been appointed to key cabinet positions.

Savula attributed the cessation of nationwide demonstrations and political hostilities to this spirit of inclusivity, emphasizing that ODM leader Raila Odinga’s support for peace initiatives, including his nomination for the African Union Commission chairman role, was a testament to Kenya’s growing unity.
“Kenya is bigger than any individual. The olive branch extended by the President to leaders from across the political divide is critical for the prosperity, development, and cohesion of the nation,” said Savula.
The Deputy Governor dismissed critics of the Ruto-Uhuru dialogue as detractors who thrive on chaos and urged them to support peaceful initiatives for the country’s progress.

“We leaders congratulate President Ruto for listening to the voice of reason. His willingness to engage and unite with leaders across the board demonstrates true statesmanship,” he said.
The truce has been hailed as a turning point in Kenyan politics, signalling an era of collaboration and mutual respect in governance.
