A 30-year-old man has been arraigned in court for allegedly assaulting his younger sister following a family dispute over her recent trip to Uganda. Abdiaziz Abdullahi Hassan appeared before Makadara Magistrate Caroline Mugo, where he denied charges of causing grievous harm to his 23-year-old sister, Ridhwan Abdillahi Hassan.

The court heard that the alleged assault occurred on January 2, 2025, at around 6:30 p.m. on Jam Street in Eastleigh, Nairobi. Hassan reportedly surrendered himself to the police for questioning at the Nairobi Area Regional DCI headquarters earlier this week.

According to police reports presented in court, Ridhwan claimed her brother attacked her during a quarrel at their family home. The dispute allegedly stemmed from her trip to Uganda on December 26, 2024, to visit friends—a journey that some family members strongly opposed.

Hassan told police that his actions were driven by concerns for his sister’s safety. He revealed that the family reported her as missing two days after her departure, filing the case at Garissa Police Station under OB number 31/28/12/2024.

“I acted to prevent what I feared might become a case of human trafficking,” Hassan told investigators. “I was concerned my sister could fall victim to trafficking networks that target individuals and transport them to Libya.”

Ridhwan recounted a different version of events, claiming police intercepted her at the Busia border, arrested her, and forced her to return home. Upon her return, she alleged that her brother attacked her, inflicting injuries to her eyes, ribs, head, and abdomen. She was treated for these injuries at Bilal Hospital.
In court, Hassan requested lenient bail terms, assuring the court that he had a fixed residence and would comply with all court proceedings.

The magistrate granted him a bond of Ksh 80,000 or an alternative cash bail of Ksh 30,000.
The case is set for mention in two weeks, with the hearing scheduled for April 30.
