St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School has once again proven its academic excellence, with 529 out of 575 candidates earning university placements following the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Josephat Chisaka emerged as the school’s top candidate, achieving a mean grade of A- (80 points). Ecstatic about his performance, Chisaka expressed gratitude despite narrowly missing an A plain.
“I honestly expected an A plain, but I am thankful for the grade I achieved and am determined to move forward,” Chisaka said. Reflecting on his performance, he added, “It pained me to miss the A plain by just one point, but I know it was due to mistakes I made during the exam period.”

The school’s principal, Chrispinus Owino, highlighted the institution’s commendable mean score of 8.1 in the 2024 KCSE exams. He attributed the success to the dedication of teachers and the discipline and commitment displayed by the students.

“As we begin 2025, we have set a target mean score of 9.5 for this year’s KCSE exams. With teamwork and collective responsibility, I am confident we will achieve it,” Mr Owino stated optimistically.
While the 2023 KCSE mean score stood at 8.5, a slight decline to 8.1 was noted in 2024. The principal explained that the drop was partly due to the larger number of candidates.

“This year, the number of candidates remains high, but we are better prepared. We have already covered much of the syllabus in key subjects and aim to finish the entire syllabus by the end of this term to focus on revision,” Mr Owino affirmed.

With high ambitions and strategic planning, St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School continues to set the bar for academic excellence in the region.
