AI-Driven Cyberattacks Surge: Companies Bolster Cybersecurity Strategies, Kaspersky Report Reveals

As concerns over AI-powered cyberattacks grow, companies worldwide are intensifying their cybersecurity defences, a recent Kaspersky survey shows.  In its study, “Cyber Defense & AI: Are You Ready to Protect Your Organisation?”, Kaspersky found that 92% of IT and Information Security professionals in the Middle East, Türkiye, and Africa (META) region expect AI-driven threats to rise over the next two years.

This forecast has spurred organizations to prioritize cybersecurity expertise by seeking support from vendors and enhancing in-house capabilities.

 Strengthening Cyber Defense

The survey revealed that 94% of respondents emphasized the importance of training internal employees in cybersecurity, while 93% stressed the value of external expertise provided by cybersecurity vendors. This trend is evident across industries, from retail to critical infrastructure, as businesses seek advanced solutions to counter increasingly sophisticated threats.

To address these risks, companies are employing a dual strategy, combining internal training initiatives and external expertise. Currently, 61% of organizations in the META region already utilize external cybersecurity support, while 62% have established training programs to upskill their workforce. Additionally, 36% are in the process of deploying or planning to implement external expertise, and 34% are advancing internal training efforts.

 Leveraging AI to Combat AI

Cybersecurity vendors, such as the Kaspersky AI Technology Research Center, play a crucial role in equipping businesses to counter AI-driven attacks. The centre focuses on research and development to enhance the protective capabilities of cybersecurity solutions and address vulnerabilities specific to AI systems.

“Our latest survey demonstrates that businesses are fully aware of the growing threat from AI-powered cyberattacks and are taking comprehensive measures to enhance their defense strategies,” said Vladislav Tushkanov, Group Manager at the Kaspersky AI Technology Research Center.

He added, “By leveraging AI advancements, we’re not only strengthening threat protection but also ensuring businesses are equipped to face the unique challenges posed by AI-related security concerns.”

 A Call to Action

The findings highlight the urgent need for businesses to adapt to an evolving threat landscape by integrating advanced expertise and technologies. With AI becoming a double-edged sword in cybersecurity, organizations must remain vigilant and proactive in their defence strategies to stay ahead of malicious actors.
