Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has come under scrutiny for hosting a series of consultative meetings at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi. While Kindiki asserts that these gatherings focus on development agendas, critics, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, allege they are platforms for political mobilization ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua has accused Kindiki of transforming the Karen residence into a venue for advancing personal political ambitions, claiming that attendees receive financial incentives. He stated, “All that is happening in State House and Karen is bribery, and it is a crime scene.”
In response, Kindiki has dismissed these allegations, emphasizing that the meetings are aimed at discussing stalled development projects and strategies for economic revitalisation. He has hosted delegations from various counties, including Embu, Murang’a, and the Maa region, to deliberate on infrastructure development and service delivery.
One of the significant projects under discussion is the controversial Ihithe-Ndunyu-Njeru Road, which is intended to connect Nyeri and Nyandarua counties. Initially opposed by environmental groups due to its potential impact on the Aberdare Forest, the project has recently received approval from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) with specific conditions to mitigate environmental concerns.
Kindiki has announced a Ksh 17 billion government allocation for the construction and completion of 12 major roads in Nyeri County. This addresses projects stalled since 2019 due to financial constraints. He assured residents that these developments are part of the broader government agenda to enhance infrastructure and service delivery across the country.
Despite political friction, Kindiki maintains that his focus is on uniting the Mt Kenya region through development initiatives rather than political manoeuvring. He has urged leaders to prioritise service delivery and avoid divisive politics, stating that the government is committed to fulfilling its promises to the Kenyan people.
As the political landscape evolves, Deputy President Kindiki continues to navigate governance and regional dynamics, emphasising development and unity as cornerstones of his administration’s agenda.
