Kenya Kwanza Leaders Demand Arrest of Opposition Protest Organisers

Leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza government have demanded the immediate arrest of opposition figures accused of organising Tuesday’s GZ protests. They condemned the protests for causing chaos, violence, deaths and for threatening the republic’s peace.
The national leaders spoke during the Women’s Empowerment Fund Drive Programme. They were led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, and President William Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet. The leaders accused the opposition of inciting violence and promoting tribal politics.

Speaker Wetang’ula and Farouk Kibet, the chief guests, vowed to end impunity and pledged to promote unity and support all Kenyans. Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah stated that Kenya is a democratic nation and will not tolerate criminals threatening to destroy the country that our forefathers built. “That is the only way people will learn to respect others’ lives,” Ichung’wah declared.

The leaders urged the Department of Internal Security and the Judiciary to hold protest organisers accountable. Other leaders present included Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa, and MPs Silvanus Osoro, Beatrice Elachi, Mary Emase, Bernard Shinali, and Emmanuel Wangwe. They condemned the opposition, alleging that the protests were fuelled by tribalism.
The leaders urged the Mulembe Nation to back the Kenya Kwanza government, citing its development record and economic upliftment agenda.
