Governor MAK’s Endgame: Planning a 2027 Retreat?

Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif of Mandera County ascended to power in 2022 under the UDM party, buoyed by strong support from his Asare clan and hopeful constituents. While his administration has introduced commendable initiatives in education, healthcare, and water provision, both political observers and citizens argue that his overall performance has fallen short of expectations.

Now, with the 2027 general election on the horizon, speculation is rife that Governor MAK may not seek a second term. Several factors appear to explain this apparent reluctance to contest again:

1. Educational Insecurity

Governor MAK is said to feel intellectually overshadowed by more experienced political peers due to his modest academic background. This has reportedly fuelled a sense of inferiority and a reluctance to engage in substantive policy debates at leadership forums.
