As the race for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat intensifies, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has emerged as a key contender, pledging to move away from divisive politics towards a more inclusive and consultative style of leadership.

Speaking during meetings with transport sector stakeholders on Sunday, Wanyonyi outlined a leadership philosophy that prioritises the voices of ordinary citizens, with participatory governance as its cornerstone. Wanyonyi’s message was clear: his campaign will avoid drama, chaos, or cheap political tactics. Instead, he committed to dialogue, mutual respect, and inclusivity, ensuring the people’s views take centre stage.

“I have humbly come to you so that we can walk this journey together. My leadership style is consultative, and I will listen to you, understand your needs, and implement what the people propose,” he affirmed.

Having represented Westlands in Nairobi, Wanyonyi highlighted his track record of inclusive development, expressing his desire to replicate this success in his home county. He expressed confidence that his approach would drive Bungoma’s growth by ensuring every citizen’s voice is heard, particularly during the budgeting process.

“My administration will be highly attentive during budgeting. Ward representatives will not merely pass budgets; we will ensure meaningful public participation where every mwananchi’s views count,” he stated.

Collaboration with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) is a key pillar of his governance model. Wanyonyi stressed that their role in budgeting must reflect the collective will of the people. “What the locals say is what I will do,” he added, reinforcing his commitment to public interest.

Addressing potential voters, Wanyonyi urged them to scrutinise all leaders seeking elective positions in Bungoma, advising them to choose those with a transformative agenda. “Vote for leaders who can transform your lives, not those who appear only during campaign seasons and vanish afterwards,” he said, positioning himself as a candidate committed to lasting change.

To those who may not support his bid, Wanyonyi promoted peaceful coexistence and democratic rights: “If you have another candidate, it’s your right to support them. I am not here to fight anyone. I am offering myself to serve Bungoma. Those who believe in my vision, let’s walk together.”In a poignant moment, Wanyonyi explained his shift from Nairobi to Bungoma as a selfless move to unlock the county’s economic potential.

“Bungoma has untapped wealth, natural resources, land, manpower, and talent. It is time we elevate Bungoma to the next level,” he said, portraying himself as a leader driven by long-term prosperity, not personal gain. Wanyonyi vowed to avoid violence or intimidation in his campaign, condemning the use of thugs and disruptive tactics. “We want clean, respectful, and peaceful campaigns that focus on issues, not chaos,” he said.

His vision includes creating a business-friendly environment in Bungoma. Recognising the private sector’s role in economic growth, he committed to ensuring businesses thrive without harassment. “Business people are the backbone of our economy. My government will provide a conducive environment for them to grow, pay taxes, and contribute to the county’s development,” he said. Wanyonyi’s message of unity and progress has resonated widely, earning support from key figures like Sirisia MP John Waluke, who praised his integrity and development-focused leadership.

“Bungoma needs a clean and transformative leader like him. He is the right person to take Bungoma forward,” Waluke said. Waluke also criticised past county leadership for mismanaging resources, accusing them of failing to meet public expectations. “We saw millions looted from county coffers in past regimes.

Let us give Tim Wanyonyi a chance to seal corruption loopholes and deliver real change,” he urged. As Bungoma approaches the 2025 election, Tim Wanyonyi’s call for a new era of collaborative, inclusive, and transparent governance is striking a chord with many eager for meaningful change. Whether he can transform this vision into reality remains to be seen, but his message of unity and progress has made him a force to watch in the upcoming race.
