ANC Party Dismisses Talk Of Plan To Fold And Join  UDA

By Andanje Wakhungu

The Amani National Congress (ANC) party leadership in Kakamega County has refuted claims that they plan to fold and be absorbed into President William Ruto’s UDA party. ANC Party leaders, led by Secretary General Godfrey Minoti, assured members and voters at large that the party is still going strong; its main aim now is the registration of more members to strengthen the party. The SG and his team were on a visit to Malava Sub County.
“The main aim of our coming here is to extend to our party leader, Honorable Issa Timamy (Lamu governor), our assurance to you (our members) that we should continue to drum up support for our founder Cabinet Prime Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. It is our duty to build a strong party as we look forward to the 2032 elections. The thought of us folding up in favor of another party or coalition is not part of our agenda at all; in fact, we are vigorously recruiting members.”
The SG maintained that they will hold a membership recruitment drive in the sub county to increase its membership from the current 68% to 80% to enable the party to have an even bigger bargaining power in the next administration after the 2027 elections. “Our recruitment drive is aimed at capturing fully committed and oriented party members at the grass-roots level who will steer party affairs in the right direction from the bottom up, in unison. We are going to recruit vibrant mainstream, youth, and women league members to support and promote the party manifesto from the ward to the branch levels so that we can maintain our 10 million strong membership throughout the country. Minoti termed the rumour misleading and peddled by their political foes, out to snatch the party members.
“We are here to stay, and our party leader is not in any way thinking of making us political orphans; we are going to support the current government while still in our mother party (ANC). Political detractors spreading malice about us should desist once and for all.” The party county chairman, Tony Maleche, stated that the county office was all set to commence its recruitment drive across the 12 wards, where they will register members in large numbers.
