Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says the National Intelligence Service (NIS) failed to advise President William Ruto that Kenyans would reject the Finance Bill. Speaking during a press conference in Mombasa on Wednesday, the DP says that the unit instead fed the president with lies linking him and former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the chaos.
He has now called for the resignation of NIS Director General Noordin Haji. “There has been a failure in intelligence and advice received. The President has now agreed we need to listen to the people,” he stated. “The security sector was caught off-guard by the intensity of the protests. Had NIS DG Noordin Haji done his job, we would not be where we are today.” He further stated that” Haji must take responsibility for the deaths and the breach of Parliament. He must resign.”
He further pleaded with the Gen Zs to call off the protests set for today. “Please, I beseech you, as your father, please have my sons and daughters make an announcement and call off the protest,” he said.
“ My children are of the same Gen Z. No parent should have to bury their child, especially in such circumstances. I cry for our children; I am unable to bear the pain of innocent young children whose only crime was to air their views in a democratic country.”
