Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed reports that the government was mulling the sale of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to foreign investors saying no such plans have been made. The Prime CS said instead, there are plans to modernize the airport and build a new terminal.
Mr Mudavadi made the clarification when he appeared before the Budget and Appropriation Committee chaired by Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) to defend the supplementary budget estimates for the financial year 2024/2025.
“The Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) must look at its investment programme very carefuly, make sure that everything is transparent. So that during the expansion process of the second terminal, let it be done through the legal process so that everybody knows what is going on,” he added.
According to the plans, which were unveiled in the Medium-Term Plan launched by President William Ruto this year the government will construct a brand-new terminal at the international facility.
JKIA has long faced criticism over issues such as leaking roofs, inadequate drainage, and lack of shelter, which have been particularly problematic during the onslaught of heavy rainfall in early March.
