The Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, has closed down a kiosk at the Nairobi bus station in the city over its unhygienic state. The county chief officer was flanked by other public health and environment officials; they ordered the facility closed on Thursday evening during a tour of the bus station.
According to Mr Mosiria, the kiosk prepares kebabs, eggs, and smokies for sale to other small retailers and hawkers. “It was discovered to be in a dire state of cleanliness, with dirty cooking oil, unpleasant odours, and an overall filthy environment that posed serious health risks to patrons, “said the county officer. He added that after deliberations among themselves, they settled on closing down the kiosk indefinitely, pending substantial improvements that must conform to Nairobi County’s stringent health and safety regulations.
“This decisive action highlights Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s commitment to public health and safety, he added. Mosiria also called upon all residents, hawkers, and vendors to take an active role in maintaining cleanliness throughout Nairobi County.
He emphasized that everyone must contribute to ensuring a clean and healthy environment in the city. He said that the closure of the kiosk serves as a stern warning to all food vendors and will reinforce the county’s dedication to upholding high standards of hygiene and safeguarding public health.
