Scandal Unveiled: DoD Principal Accountant Accused of Fake Academic Credentials and Massive Wealth

It has been sensationally revealed that the Principal Accountant at the Department of Defence (DoD), Electina Waswa Wanyonyi, who is also the wife of a Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant for 2027, is embroiled in a scandal involving fake academic certificates as the government intensifies efforts to eliminate impostors. Despite earning a salary of only Kshs 182,000 with allowances, Wanyonyi reportedly owns properties worth hundreds of millions, allegedly due to her connections to large DoD tenders.

Reports suggest that she was unqualified when she assumed the position of Principal Accountant and has remained in office despite multiple complaints. Sources claim she has bribed those who raise concerns, making her seemingly untouchable. Ironically, her role involves overseeing critical financial operations, including coordinating management accounting, preparing final accounts, ensuring timely bank reconciliation, interpreting financial regulations, coordinating budget preparations, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. She is also tasked with responding to audit queries, ensuring tax compliance, and maintaining proper accounting records.

The position she holds requires at least eight years of relevant experience, three of which must be in a supervisory capacity, along with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Commerce or Accounting. Additionally, the role demands certification as a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPAK), membership in good standing with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), management training, proficiency in accounting software, and fulfillment of the integrity requirements outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution.
