Government Deploys ICT Experts to Accelerate Social Health Authority (SHA) Scheme Rollout

In a strategic move to accelerate the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA) healthcare scheme, the Kenyan government has dispatched 70 ICT experts across counties to address technical challenges faced by health facilities. Medical Services Principal Secretary, Harry Kimtai, stated that the ICT officers will ensure healthcare providers have access to log-in credentials and support for system usage, facilitating uninterrupted service delivery under SHA.

This deployment comes as facilities have faced issues accessing the necessary credentials, risking delays in service. “Our service providers, in partnership with digital health agencies, have stationed ICT experts in each county to ensure healthcare facilities can seamlessly issue SHA services,” PS Kimtai announced during a press briefing in Kisumu.

To date, SHA has enrolled over 13.4 million Kenyans, with daily registrations climbing rapidly, 135,000 new enrollees signed up on Thursday alone. PS Kimtai emphasized the importance of Kenyans updating their dependents for streamlined access to SHA services.

Additionally, a multisectoral team, including County Commissioners, health executives, and Community Health Promoters, will spearhead grassroots registration efforts, reaching eligible citizens directly within their communities. This initiative aims to expand SHA enrollment even further, strengthening access to healthcare services nationwide.
