Universities are stepping up to meet the demands of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) era, with KCA University leading the charge by launching a lecturer-retooling college. The initiative aims to train professors and adapt academic curricula to align with CBC requirements. KCA University Vice Chancellor Isaiah Wakindiki underscored the urgency of preparing universities for the transition, stating, “We must ensure our instructors are ready when CBC learners reach university.”
The university’s recent graduation ceremony highlighted its commitment to innovation and transformation. Newly appointed Chancellor Dr Martin Oduor called on graduates to focus on creating jobs, emphasizing the transformative potential of education.
“As the 8-4-4 system phases out, the CBC spotlight intensifies, with questions over its ability to deliver on promises of competency development and equitable education,” Wakindiki noted. With the Ministry of Education under pressure to bridge systemic gaps, the success of CBC hinges on collaborative efforts to support learners, parents, and educators alike. Universities like KCA are taking the lead in ensuring a seamless transition to the CBC era.
