A Somali national, Hashim Dangane Muhumed, also known as Hashim Mohamed Khalif, was charged in court recently with the murder of four women in Eastleigh last October, in a case that shocked the country.
Hashim, who faces charges under Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code, is accused of murdering Dahab Daud Said, alias Waris, in the Kyumbi area of Machakos County, along with her relatives Amina Abdirashid Dhahir and Musayba Abdi Mohamed in Parklands, Nairobi, on the night of October 21. He is also charged with the murder of Ndeka Abdi Noor Gorane, whose body was discovered at a short-stay rental in Lavington, Nairobi, between October 29 and 31, 2024. Ndeka had been reported missing at California Police Station in Eastleigh before her remains, consisting of boiled bones and a skeleton, were found dumped at Lang’ata Cemetery on November 1.
Reports suggest Ndeka had been living with Hashim for a week before her disappearance, after leaving her family to stay with him. It is alleged that Hashim murdered her shortly after killing the other three victims.
During a virtual court appearance from Nairobi Area Remand and Allocation Prison, Hashim denied all charges before Justice Kanyi Kimondo of the High Court. He sought lenient bail and bond terms through his advocate, but the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) opposed the request.
DCI’s Homicide Unit revealed that Hashim, although identified as a Somali national named Hashim Mohamed Khalif in his passport, had fraudulently acquired Kenyan registration. Senior Prosecution Counsel Millicent Kiringia confirmed the prosecution’s opposition to bail and bond, citing the severity of the case and Hashim’s flight risk.
An affidavit will be filed to support the prosecution’s stance, and Justice Kimondo has given the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) seven days from January 21 to file the document. Hashim is expected to respond to the application before the matter is mentioned on February 11.
In a related development, taxi driver Jared Mongare, initially arrested in connection with Ndeka’s murder, was discharged without charges. However, his vehicle will remain detained at the DCI headquarters as an exhibit in the ongoing investigation.
