ODM Reaffirms Dominance In Western Kenya As Party Marks 20 Years

By Hilda Atika

ODM Party leaders have declared that the party remains the strongest and most dominant political force in Western Kenya, maintaining its influence since its establishment in 2005.

Speaking at a high-level ODM delegates’ meeting on Sunday in Kakamega, leaders led by host Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa expressed their gratitude for the party’s journey under the leadership of Hon. Raila Odinga. Barasa, who also serves as the ODM Kakamega County Chairperson, reaffirmed that as Raila prepares to ascend to a new continental role as the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, the party stands at a critical juncture.

The consultative forum in Kakamega was held ahead of Raila Odinga’s anticipated election on 15 February in Ethiopia. Discussions centred on strengthening the party to ensure its resilience and continued influence in Kenya’s political landscape while setting the stage for the “ODM at 20” celebrations.

The meeting was attended by Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o (Interim Party Leader), Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga (ODM Chairperson), Deputy Party Leaders Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Kisii Governor Simba Arati, as well as MPs led by Lurambi MP Titus Khamala, other senior party officials, and DAP-K Deputy Party Leader and Kakamega Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula.
