A true leader is not defined by their desire for power but by the integrity of their actions, their commitment to fairness, and their resolve to serve the people. Such a leader stands firm in the face of adversity, makes difficult decisions for the greater good, and remains steadfast in their duty to those they represent. Hon. Hussein Weytan, the Member of Parliament for Mandera East, embodies all these qualities and more. His leadership is a beacon of hope for the people of Mandera County, and it is evident that he is a political figure who deserves another term in the 2027 general election.
Hon. Hussein Weytan is more than a parliamentary representative, he is a true son of the soil. His deep-rooted connection to Mandera East and his unwavering dedication to its people make him the natural choice for continued leadership. The constituents of Mandera East have consistently recognised his sincerity and devotion to their welfare. As a leader, he has demonstrated that his actions consistently reflect his promises, displaying a rare blend of humility and strength when confronting challenges.
A defining feature of Hon. Hussein Weytan’s leadership is his profound understanding of his role. He frequently affirms, “This is my constituency and county headquarters. My role as MP for Mandera East is to represent my people both in Parliament and at the county level. I must listen to their concerns and act on any issues affecting them. This is why I was elected as their leader.” His commitment to listening to his constituents and addressing their grievances is central to his leadership philosophy.
One notable example is his passionate intervention in cases of land grabbing. When residents raised the alarm, he responded with a dedication that could only stem from genuine concern. He has been a vocal proponent of transparency and accountability, emphasising the need for public resources to be utilised correctly. This includes rigorously examining the management of funds allocated to Mandera County by the national government, ensuring that they are directed to their intended projects and programmes.
Hon. Weytan is an unflinching defender of land rights in the region. His firm stance against land grabbing has earned him widespread respect. In a recent development, the head of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Mr Abdikadir Eimoy, disclosed that he had received threats from the current Governor, Mohamed Adan Khalif, over contested KWS land. This revelation underscores the significance of Hon. Hussein’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and safeguard the interests of Mandera East’s residents—including the rights of principled public officials like Mr Eimoy.
Beyond land rights, Hon. Hussein has also been vigilant in his oversight of county development funds. He recently raised serious concerns about the alleged misappropriation of nearly KSh 190 million, meant for development, which was reportedly transported to Nairobi using county government vehicles. Such disclosures highlight the urgent need for principled and transparent leadership, qualities that Hon. Weytan consistently exemplifies.
In every sense, Hon. Hussein Weytan represents what it means to be a genuine public servant: unwavering in his pursuit of justice, committed to transparent governance, and fully invested in the well-being of his people. The residents of Mandera East deserve such steadfast and capable leadership, one that listens, acts, and courageously stands for what is right.
