Kenya Maritime Authority: Clearing the Fog or Sinking Deeper?

The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA), long dogged by allegations of corruption, leadership infighting, and stalled reforms, has once again turned a new leaf, at least on paper. The recent appointment of Omae Nyarandi as the new Director General has ignited cautious optimism within the maritime sector, but deep questions remain about whether he can clean up a house in chronic disarray.

Mr Nyarandi, a seasoned maritime professional and former Executive Secretary of the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA), was unveiled in a brief ceremony at KMA headquarters in Mombasa. Stakeholders hope he will bring stability to a post that has become synonymous with scandal and abrupt exits.
