No Immunity: Kenya’s Security Chiefs Exposed to ICC for Gen Z Killings

Following the deadly youth-led protests that rocked Kenya on 25 June last year, there have been renewed calls for the prosecution of the country’s top security officials at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

However, opinion remains divided. Government defenders argue that no Kenyan, or African, citizen can be tried at the ICC, claiming that Africa now has a permanent criminal court equivalent to the Hague-based Court. Their position is based on the Malabo Protocol, which Kenya has signed.
