Parliament has expressed confidence in the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and its efforts to steer policing towards higher levels of professionalism in Kenya. Homa Bay Town MP, Peter Kaluma, who sits on the National Assembly’s Committee on National Administration and Internal Security, made the observation during IPOA’s launch of its Strategic Plan 2025–2030.
The legislator lauded IPOA’s third Board, which he said comprises competent members from diverse backgrounds , an indication of the Government’s commitment to reforms in the National Police Service.
The Board, chaired by Ahmed Isaack Hassan, brings to IPOA a wealth of experience and integrity that will enhance the institution’s ability to effectively carry out its mandate.
“In my public service tour, brothers and sisters in this particular committee, I have vetted three Independent Policing Oversight Authority board appointments , and they have been counted today.
I wanted to say, Chair Isaack and the team, when I heard of your nomination to the IPOA Board, I was very excited. You will remember , and I think this was in public , when you came before us for vetting, I barely had any questions for any of you,” said Kaluma.
