UBA Kenya Faces Heat as Investigators Flag Suspicious Transfers

By TWV Team

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Kenya, a subsidiary of the Nigeria-headquartered UBA Group, is under renewed scrutiny after being linked to suspected illicit money transfers amounting to US$533,599.85 (KSh 69.5 million). This development comes just days after the Group’s Founder and Chairman, Tony Elumelu, visited Nairobi and pledged a US$1 billion (KSh 129.15 billion) investment in Kenya’s infrastructure during a meeting with President William Ruto at State House.

A confidential report prepared by at least two Kenyan government investigative agencies, and seen by The Weekly Vision, reveals that several Kenyan individuals, working through a prominent Nairobi law firm, received two international transfers through UBA Kenya on 8th May 2025. The transactions are reportedly linked to entities in Nigeria and Leos.

The timing of the revelations raises serious questions about UBA Kenya’s internal controls, its compliance culture, and its suitability as a partner in multi-billion-shilling public projects.
