The Wangamati family led by Mzee Patrick Wangamati has come out vividly to congratulate former
Bungoma County Senator Moses Wetang’ula in his new role as the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Mr Wetang’ula fell out politically with the Wangamati family after former Bungoma governor Wycliffe
Wangamati termed up with former Tongaren MP Dr Eseli Simiyu and Former Kanduyi MP Wafula
Wamunyinyi in staging a failed party coup that was intended to oust him as the Ford Kenya party leader.
After failing to oust Mr Wetang’ula from the party, the three ditched Ford Kenya and joined the newly
registered DAP-K of outgoing defence CS Eugene Wamalwa.
In an Interview with the press at his home on Friday, Patrick Wangamati, Chairman Luhya elders forum
said that Wetang’ula is now a Luhya leader and he needs to be given all the support so that he can
deliver for the region. “Wetang’ula is a national leader now who deserves to serve as the national
assembly speaker, Ruto knew that is why he pushed for Wetang’ula to be given such a prestigious
position in his Kenya Kwanza government,” he said. He added, “I have personally worked with
Wetang’ula in the Ford Kenya party and I believe in him, he can’t fail us,”
However, Wangamati praised President William Ruto for being smart and winning the August elections,
he lauded the Supreme Court for upholding Ruto as the winner. “Ruto has worked with the outgoing
President Uhuru Kenyatta, let us try Ruto and see what he will do for us,” Wangamati said.
In his appeal, Wangamati called on the Kenya Kwanza government to do what it promised to the Kenyan
people citing the revival of the Nzoia sugar company. On the looming Bungoma Senatorial by-election,
Wangamati asked Bungoma residents to choose a leader who will work with Governor Ken Lusaka and
ensure that Bungoma goes to the next level. Wangamati thanked Kenyan politicians for keeping peace
before, during and after the elections adding that Kenya won and nobody should fight his friend because
of backing a different political outfit. His sentiments were echoed by Derick Wafula who said that the
leaders who lost in the August polls need to be supported to contest for the Bungoma Senator position.
“We want our son Wycliffe Wangamati to remain relevant in politics, he should be backed to become
the Senator of this great county,” Wafula said. Mr Wafula called on governor Lusaka to work with all
people to ensure that Bungoma is better. “Please governor Lusaka when you win the elections, you are
now the governor for all the people, therefore please engage all and ensure that Bungoma is taken to
the next level,” Wafula said.
