Kenya Airways pilots have issued a stern warning that they will down their tools in the next 14 days following alleged protracted disagreements between the union representing Kenya Airways pilots and the company’s management. The pilots now claim that their grievances have gone unresolved.
“We have made several pleas to the KQ leadership to address these matters, however, you and the KQ management team remain unperturbed and unbothered to find solutions to these matters that impact the pilot fraternity,” a statement issued on Wednesday by the Kenya Airline Pilots Association said.
The pilots have listed four grievances including the withdrawal of KQ’s staff provident fund, harassment of union officials, non-adherence to Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) and leadership and governance issues at the airline.
“Internal mismanagement, incompetence and sheer impunity have continued to negatively impact the airline’s operations, financial viability and the ability of the airline to maintain its image as the Pride of Africa. We believe that a major overhaul and the restructuring of the entire KQ board and management team will be necessary if the airline seeks to fly out of the current turbulence,” the pilots added.
The pilots claim that Kenya Airways arbitrarily suspended both the employee and employer contributions in 2020 and never resumed.
