Former Bumula lawmaker Moses Mwambu Mabonga has been handed a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket to contest for the Bungoma Senate seat position. Present at the awarding of the party certificate was UDA National elections board chairman Antony Mwaura who said that the party would also be giving tickets to aspirants in other regions.
In an interview with The Weekly Vision on Friday in Nairobi, Mwambu noted that he is prepared to battle it out with Ford Kenya’s Wafula Wakoli in the forthcoming by-election slated on December 8th. “I have no problem with my competitors, I am ready to compete with them in a friendly match ahead of us, I know that Bungoma voters believe in me and the UDA leadership,” Mwambu said.
Mwambu Mabonga, Sirisia MP John Waluke, Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, and Mt. Elgon lawmaker Fred Kapondi were the MPs that marketed, sold and pushed for the UDA plan in Bungoma county. Sirisia MP John Waluke led the team before he ditched and joined the former President’s Jubilee party.
Mwambu lauded the western region for turning out in huge numbers in August and casting their votes in the Kenya Kwanza basket. “Kenyans believed in the Kenya Kwanza plan that is why they voted for the Kenya Kwanza leaders, I still have a vision of changing Bungoma and I will change it through the Senate,” he said. Mwambu contested for the Bumula seat in the August polls but was defeated by Jack Wamboka of DAK-K.
Wamboka has said that he will back Mwambu’s election to become the Bungoma Senator. Mwambu added, “Bumula has been left behind for many years it is high time we have a leader who can sit at the national table and negotiate for a bigger cake, we have suffered for a long time,” Mwambu said that Bungoma needs a leader who will play his oversight role adding that he fits in Wetang’ula’s shoes.
On his part, Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama affirmed he is behind Mwambu’s bid arguing that the Bungoma Senate position needs an individual who will do his oversight role without fear.
