Members of parliament allied to President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance are demanding that state officers who actively participated in campaigning for Azimio’s Raila Odinga in the last presidential elections be investigated and if found culpable should face the full wrath of the law.
Fear has now gripped a section of Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRa) top officials following reports that one top official based in Nyanza has been marked for investigations by DCI and EACC over the allegations. The man on the EACC radar is KeRRA Nyanza regional boss Eng. Kenneth Ochieng. He is said to have actively participated in bankrolling Raila Odinga presidential campaigns.
Sources say he pumped millions of shillings in the campaign. He is known to have been close to Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta and used his closeness to them in lobbying contractors to contribute into the campaign kitty. It is against such allegations that a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders who were privy to his actions are now demanding that officers who demeaned President Ruto in the campaigns be kicked out and their places be taken by party loyalists.
Another target is based in Bungoma, procurement officer Evans Barasa and his accountant Nelson Sino who sources say are also under investigation. Barasa is accused by disgruntled contractors of abuse of office and impunity of witch-hunting despite facts on the ground working against him. Among the complaints is that 22pc meant for constituency roads, and 10pc of the tenders are supposed to be awarded to youth and people living with a disability however, the procurement officer has gone against the procurement rules.
